Mr. Lovett’s ’99 offering is a lovely concert recording made in 1995, and while it’s a welcome addition to the deadpan song stylist’s catalog, the fact that it follows an album of cover songs (last year’s inspired Step Inside This House) and a forgettable effort (1996’s uninspired The Road To Ensenada) could call into concern the status of his muse. Still, Live features smart versions of "Here I Am," "You Can’t Resist It," "North Dakota," and other faves. Yee-haw. —
