There's no need to be afraid...or is there? For my third stab at a night of all Christmas music, I broadened the pallette slightly, and in my humble opinion I just might have stumbled on my finest evening of holiday fare yet. James Brown and Frank Sinatra both showed up three times, and as well they should. The only song that was played in multiple versions was "Jingle Bells," which I played approximately 19,000 different recordings of; but every Christmas song is "Jingle Bells," anyway, so what's the difference? Of course I left out some key stuff. Hell, I even gave Johnny Mathis' "Sleigh Ride" the year off, despite the fact that it's the second best Christmas recording of all time, and this is the one time a year I get to play it in public. Blame that on the fact that I got this year's finest new holiday compilation, A John Waters Christmas, and had to feature one of its highlights, Alvin And The Chipmunks' version of the same song. This year also featured material from The OC's holiday comp and a killer diller McCartney/J.Lo mash-up from Go Home Productions. The new lax rules even allowed me to fit in "Dreadlock Holiday." And it didn't kill us to play a little Foghat, either. See all y'all next year for more holiday trash. P.S. If anyone else knows a DJ who has segued Depeche Mode into Jim Nabors and lived to tell about it, let me know. I may form a support group.
